Pain shows that something hasn't been addressed...
I wanted to share some fascinating information that could change the way you think about pain and injuries.
Here’s something most people don’t realize about neuroscience: Our brains prioritise protection in our bodies, and pain happens later.
Our brain’s main job is to protect your body, and it does this by sending signals to your muscles to protect against excessive strain as well as injured areas.
As a physiotherapist, I was incorrectly taught it's all about healing in the area of the pain.
This rarely matches clients and their pain problems.
The more I learned about neuroscience the more I understood,
Protective responses always come first, even before we even feel pain.
Now, here's the real game-changer: If we can resolve the brain's protective response, the pain will go away.
Let me say that again–when there are no protective responses there is no reason for our brains to create pain.
This applies no matter where the primary issue is in our bodies even if it is very different to the area of our pain.
Let me tell you about one of our clients, Emma. She came to us with chronic knee pain that had been bothering her for years.
Traditional methods didn’t seem to help much.
When we took a closer look, we realized her brain was sending protective signals to her knee muscles, causing them to overfire and create pain.
By addressing these protective signals, we were able to eliminate her pain.
Emma is now back to hiking, running and enjoying all her favourite activities without discomfort.
Understanding this concept can be a game-changer for your health.
