Yolane’s winning result

Yolane won Gold in the 50m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games.

She nearly didn’t make it to the games.

Yolane started seeing Michael Ridgway to get the help she wasn’t able to find with other practitioners when she was 13 years old.

Yolane continued to break records at nearly every meet she attended and became Australian champion in 50m freestyle when she was 14.

She travelled overseas for 6 weeks of gruelling competition schedule, including the Pan Pacific Games in the USA.

By the end of that tour, Yolane had rib pain severe enough to stop her swimming. An MRI showed what might have been the start of a stress fracture in her 4th rib.

When Yolane returned to Brisbane she had one week before it was time to fly to India for the Commonwealth Games.

But, Yolane wasn’t able to swim and train, let alone race.

During that week Yolane had a few sessions with Michael and she was able to swim pain-free again.

By the end of that week, Yolane was training and ready to go to the games.

At those games Yolane became the only Australian, along with Ian Thorpe, to win swimming Commonwealth Gold at the age of 14.

Yolane continued tune-up appointments with Michael to keep in top shape and also won Olympic Gold in London as a member of the 4x100m relay team.

We think you are a real champion, Yolane - thank you!
